At present Coppermills supplies potable water pumping it to areas of East London. It also supplies the TWRM but this is by gravity feed only; it cannot retrieve water back for supply elsewhere. The upgrades at Coppermills will change all that.
Morgan Est have been contracted to undertake this work. As well as replacing and upgrading existing valves and pipework within the compound, they are also constructing a 27 metres deep, 15 metres diameter Shaft D to accept potable water, creating connecting tunnels to existing shafts so that Shaft D can be connected to the rest of the system. The work is planned to be completed early in 2010.
The Thames Water Ring Main (TWRM) forms a closed ring around Central London conveying potable water. As part of the AMP 4 London Resilience Programme a new TWRM Transfer Pump Shaft will be constructed at Coppermills Water Treatment Works WTW) within the existing TWRM Site Compond.
